HelloI'm doing some research. And I wanted to know if I could get some detailed web page links, or info from anyone about exactly what do non reality Hollywood television series producer's talk about? I know they are in charge of many tasks, like hiring talent, writing, settings, directing, budgets..... what about the budgets? what kind of things are they talking about in their job duties? Second question thanks. When a television series goes on location, and is shooting inside and outside somewhere what is the kind of stuff they talk about? are the executive producer's there? what are some of things they bring with them?, is it all carried in semi-trucks? What do the camera guys talk about? detailed info like that. Thank you for your help!

Executive producers talk about money, just like everybody else in the U.S.A. We also talk about sex and use a great deal of talk trying to leverage either money or sex out of others...justy like everybody else in the U.S.A.If you want to know what producers in television do, and not what they talk about, that is a different question. For detailed answers to that I recommend LB's upcoming tome, whatever its name is. He sent me a copy of the ms. and did in fact have most things right. Orange (County) Julius (who wishes LB had managed to leave out references to certain producers in said valume, particularly those who have been arrested for unlawful possession of certain mushrooms...but of course I know such a fate is only to be wished and never to be)

I forgot to mention that there is no apostrophe in the plural "producers." I hope the fact that you cannot write the English language does not interfere with your research but fear it already has.O (C) J

The question is pretty clear "what kind of things are they talking about in their job duties? Please read carefully before you respond to a post. Lots of people do that!. And by the way I have more money than you do. Your words are useless!

cbk,If you have as much money as you claim, why not do some first hand research? Buy your way on to the set of a production and eavesdrop, or hell, offer to pay some of the posters here with first hand knowledge to spill the beans. Better yet, fund a project, then you'll be the producer, so all you have to do is remember what you say. Oh, wait a minute. You didn't specifically ask for alternative approaches to demanding information from strangers. I guess my words are useless too. Zap

Oh, my God, cbk! Do you have any idea who you just insulted?Julius is one of the most powerful and influential TV producers in Hollywood. He takes a limo to work every day and flies off for weekend vacations all over the world in his own private jet. I'm guessing he makes about 4-6 million a year. So, you make more money than Julius, do you? Good. Use it to buy yourself some humility and a better sense of humour. You obviously need it. Kelly (you'll never eat lunch in this town again) Gibson

The boss would kill me if he knew I was butting in here, Kelly, but your estimate is way off. You need to add a zero to the right side of each of your numbers. As for insulting Mr. R, the only time I've seen him take anything personally is when the network doesn't like a cut of an episode or when LB turns down a job or when he thinks the table at the restaurant isn't good enough or the waiter didn't look at him adoringly enough. Come to think of it, the boss is always being insulted and taking it personally. Sorry, cbk. Sharon Dictated but not read by ocj

cbk, I saw your post at another site and you were referred here because posters at the other site knew that this would be the best place to have your questions answered. It's a shame you've ruined your opportunity to gain both valuable insight and contacts because of your juvenile attitude. You'll learn when you grow up.

Don't let 'em spoof ya, cbk. Producers talk (negatively) about other producers. They talk (negatively) about other shows and their own shows. They talk (negatively) about money and sex and power. They talk (negatively) about actors and actresses. They talk (negatively) about writers and people who think they are writers and people who wanna be writer's (whatevers). They talk (negatively) about world politics, including the current tense situations in Andorra and the Belgian Congo. They talk (negatively) about their doctors, their brokers, their bookies AND their relatives.Julius Rosenblatt's name does not appear anywhere on Yahoo, because he has enough power and money and megamedia influence to ensure that it doesn't. He might even own a piece of that rock. I could tell you about the time he and Bill Gates and I cruised around Orange County for hours in the Rosenblatt-mobile, knocking back quarts of tequila and talking (negatively) about everything under the sun...behind the sun...and beyond the light of the sun. But...you wouldn't believe me and might just ATTACK ME WITH CAPITAL LETTERS. So...I'll just step aside and let others continue your enlightenment. Good luck with your project's... N(D!)P

Well said. You must be one of the few current writers who reads.(See another "thread." Did I get that word right?) You know, I would be glad to speak positively about somebody or something if there only was something positive to speak about. However... Prof (who has driven with Julius but would turn down a lift from Bill Gates)

Mouths, maybe? Perhaps he was referring to producers' other ends and the only sounds that those "produce" are the ones that are usually accompanied by some unpleasant smells. Just a guess.

Hey, cbk, now that you've had our friendly little initiation I'm going to address your questions. I'm not even going to hold your typo against you because, hell, nowhere do you claim to be a writer. If you ARE a writer and don't know when to use apostrophes and when not to, then you should find out. The world holds writers to a higher standard in terms of the use of language than it does "normal" people. I mean, using the language properly so we can communicate truth and beauty are what writing's all about, correctamundo? Now the answers, which you're not going to like. In two short paragraphs you're wanting the complete job producer of TV producer, and there's no way to fully/properly answer that on this Board. My upcoming book does cover most of this over about a fifty page span, but it still leaves out a great deal. The way to learn IS to become a fly on the wall. To get access and hang out and see what each member of the production team does. The way to get access is to either get a job as an assistant or intern or, what the hell, call and explain that you're studying TV and wonder if you can have a week's worth of time on the set. Ask for a week and maybe they'll give you a day. Say it's for school. Don't say you're a writer because you'll have to back it up, and from what you've posted here that looks like it'll be tough for you. Besides, no one wants wannabe writers around anyway. They're more comfortable if you say you're studying to be a director. (And TV directors don't have to sound too literate or even too bright.) Oh--don't worry about having antagonized Old Uncle Julius. Hell, one of the best ways to get a job in TV is to be someone he hates. He loves to hire people he has a grudge against just so he can torture them--or so he likes to say anyway. I'm hoping that all the times over the years he's tried to hire me it was because I just might be able to do the job right. There's a lot of info available on this site, and there are a lot of posts on this Board that will give you dribs and drabs of what you want to know if you take the time to go through them. I hope you give it a try. Good luck-- Brody

Julius makes 60 million a year? Holy freakin' Christ! I'm packin' my bags, O(C)J, and I'm coming down to L.A. to join Sharon as one of your loyal, devoted (and extremely well-paid) personal slaves. But seriously, about the whole intern thing, it really worked for me. A few months back I got an idea about creating a fantasy-adventure TV series that was a cross between the X-Files and The Eleventh Hour (a Canadian series about the behind-the-scenes goings-on at a fictional primetime news magazine show, i.e. 20/20). I was a radio personality for many years but completely clueless about the inner workings of a news magazine show, so I contacted my local TV station and asked if I could hang around for a few weeks and observe as the journalists, producers and technical people prepared for the morning, evening and late night live news broadcasts. To my pleasant surprise, they agreed to let me shadow everyone, asks questions and take notes. I even ended up working as a production assistant for an entire week during their live three hour breakfast show! I learned so much, made some great friends/contacts, and my name is in the hat for the next available job opening (where I'm qualified, of course). It's a good gig if you can get it. And you can get it if you try. Kelly (reporting live from Ottawa at the NEW RO) Gibson

Thanks Kelly but I'am always amazed at how sometimes posts by about the 15th reply are side tracked to something almost totally irrelevant. I dont want a internship, oh, did you think I wanted to break into the business, heck no! Next week I will be researching detectives and a homicide scene. I just wanted to know dialogue between Hollywood producers on a television series, but your advice about getting in and observing is great and I thank you. If I could I would.

Next time try insulting people using your real name, cbk. Not only are you an idiot but a coward as well! Ever hear that saying "the more I know - the more I realize I don't know...?"The people on this board, the pros and others, have earned my respect because they don't rip people apart in public (certain groups, yes, but never and individual). I've seen them handle some pretty rude behavior on this board in a professional and dignified manner. Hats off to Larry for this. Learning every day, Joh
