TV Writer.Com, Cloud Creek Institute For The Arts and the South African Broadcasting Corporation are proud to announce a new writing competition that can be summed up in five words: South African Television Wants You! If you reside on the African continent or have written a script relating to South African life and/or issues, four of the five major South African TV networks want to read your material and, if it's good enough, put it or new, commissioned work by you on the air - at professional rates. The Categories The SPEC SCRIPTACULAR SOUTH AFRICA Television Writing Competition is divided into three categories: Comedy Series Action/Drama/Soap Opera Series Series Pilots/TV Movies Any uncommissioned script written for an existing or recent South African television series is eligible for either the Comedy Series or Action/Drama/Soap Opera Series category. Experienced and inexperienced writers alike are welcome. New writers to South African TV are particularly encouraged to enter. The participating networks are particularly interested in the following: M-Net - "Egoli" SABC1 - "Generations" & "Soul City" SABC2 - "Muvhango" & "Justice For All" SABC3 - "Isidingo" Any uncommissioned script written to introduce a new series that is entirely original, to spin off a new series from an existing or recent South African television series, or as an uncommissioned screenplay intended either for television or feature films and relating to South African life and/or issues is elibible for the Series Pilots/TV Movies category regardless of length. Experienced and inexperienced writers alike are welcome. New writers to South African TV are particularly encouraged to enter. The particpating networks also consider the following current series to be ripe for spin-offs (shows based on characters/locations/situations in these series but taking them in a new direction): M-Net - "Egoli" SABC1 - "Generations" SABC2 - "Muvhango" SABC3 - "Isidingo" M-Net is also interested in seeing screenplays/teleplays that would make good 90 minute TV movies. The Prizes The First Prize winning entry is the one the judges find BEST OVERALL regardless of category & will receive: R1000.00 from Cloud Creek Institute For The Arts Consideration for Purchase or future Commission by M-Net, SABC1, SABC2 & SABC3. This is professional purchase or commission at the current going rate paid by these four networks. Consideration for International Representation by the Terry Porter Agency one of the most respected literary agencies in the United States.
